Seychelles
The Seychelles, Praslin, La Digue
Day 1: After arriving at the international airport on Mahé Island, get some local money at the ATM and then hop on a domestic flight to the second largest Island in the Seychelles, Praslin. When you land, check in to your hotel, get some dinner, and—if there is time—take a walk along a local beach before bed.
Day 2: Devote today to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. In the morning, take a bus or taxi and spend a few hours at Anse Georgette. The only way to access the beach is to make a reservation with the hotel that owns the property, but you will enjoy the seclusion among the giant, smoothed granite boulders that make the Seychelles famous. In the afternoon, try another nearby beach—Anse Lazio—which is not far, but because of the lack of paved roads in the area, it may take you awhile to reach. You can also hike to Anse Lazio from Anse Georgette, but the trail is not marked and you could get lost, so it is better to take the bus or a taxi. Anse Lazio is a public beach, blessed with even more of those wonderful granite boulders as well as good snorkeling. After a very active day and a good dinner, you will surely sleep soundly.
Day 3: After breakfast, take a tour of Curieuse Island. On this nearby island, you will have the chance to see giant Aldabra tortoises while your tour guides make lunch. Most tours make a few stops for snorkeling before taking you back to your hotel for dinner.
Day 4: Today, you need to pack your bags for your trip to the fourth largest island in the Seychelles, La Digue. If you have time before you leave, the Vallée de Mai makes a nice stop to see the famous and sexy double coconut or coco de mer. The bus or a taxi will take you to the ferry, where after a short ride you will land at the quiet paradise. Compared to busy Mahé and laidback Praslin, La Digue is a real “backwater island.” There are few cars on the small island where most tourists ride bikes or walk. After unpacking, cool off at Anse Patates, which also has excellent snorkeling. Try one of the local take-out spots for dinner before getting some rest after a busy day.
Day 5: Today, you will meet up with your boat tour for of some of the best snorkeling sites in the area. You will have a nice lunch as you enjoy nice beaches and snorkeling on some of the smaller islands around La Digue usually including Ile Cocos and Felicite. After a wonderful tour, head back to your room to relax before dinner.
Day 6: The highlight of the trip will be today’s guided tour of some hard-to-get-to beaches on La Digue. You’ll spend the day climbing over boulders and wading through water, but the payoff is huge! Arriving at secluded, stunning Anse Marron, you will enjoy wading and snorkeling through a boulder strewn scene that creates crystal clear pools of reef fish. After lunch at Anse Marron, your guide will take you through other beautiful beaches as you make our way to lovely Anse Source d’Argent. This long beach is no secret, and the closer you get to the entrance, the more people you will see. Still, the beauty of the place is undeniable. Your tour ends here where you can linger until sunset and enjoy the afternoon as the crowds dissipate. On the way back to your room, enjoy some local ice cream after a long but rewarding day.
Day 7: Wind your trip down on your last full day on La Digue by hiking or riding your bike to Grand Anse, a broad beach with plenty of space and no crowds. Grand Anse has rough waves and is not good for swimming, but it is a lovely place for a beach walk. At the end of Grand Anse, a short trail goes up over a hill to Petite Anse, which has similarly rough water, but is even lovelier and has fewer people. Petite Anse is a great place to lay out your beach mat, get some sun, and enjoy the solitude. After a relaxing day, return for dinner and then pack your bags for your departure the next day.
Day 8: The time to leave this dreamy island has come. Take the ferry back to Praslin and then take a taxi to the airport for your flight back to Mahé. You have enjoyed a remote island chain that few people experience, that lives up to the hype, and that is even more beautiful than depicted in photos. As you return home, you will certainly remember the uniquely beautiful Seychelles for years to come.
