Pacific Northwest
Reno, Lassen, Redwoods, Sea Lion Caves, Mt. St. Helen’s, Olympic National Park, Mt. Rainer, Crater Lake, Lava Beds
Day 1: Arrive in Reno, Nevada and drive about two and a half hours to Lassen Volcanic National Park. Take in the rugged beauty of this steamy landscape. This area is reminiscent of Yellowstone, but on a smaller scale. When you’ve soaked in enough natural scenery, buckle in for the hour-long drive to Redding, California, where you’ll be for the night.
Day 2: You’re back on the road for the drive to Redwood National Park. Talk a walk through the forest to really appreciate the tallest trees on earth. The redwoods can't be found anywhere but along this coast, so savor the experience. Afterwards, drive to Florence, Oregon to tour the Sea Lion Caves and observe these playful creatures. Conclude your day with a drive to Eugene for the night.
Day 3: Continue your drive north to Mt. St. Helen's National Monument. St. Helen's is a destination unique in that it was site of massive destruction when the volcano erupted in 1980. Spend some time at the visitors center to learn more and then drive on further to see the devastation. Back in the car, travel to Olympia, where you’ll stay the night.
Day 4: Drive to Olympic National Park, where you’ll find a diverse landscape of snow-capped mountains, rain forests and an abundance of sea life. Make sure to spend some time exploring the tide pools for interesting creatures and also on a hike through the rain forest before going to the Seattle/Tacoma area for the night.
Day 5: In the morning, drive to Mt. Rainier National Park. Enjoy the beautiful drive and make sure to get in some hiking. Drive back to Eugene to stay the night.
Day 6: On your last day of sightseeing, drive to the fifth oldest national park in America, Crater Lake National Park. The lake was formed by rainwater and snow melt that has filled the caldera of the volcano. Take in the view where the deep blue water beautifully contrasts with the evergreens and volcanic rock. Afterwards, drive on to Lava Beds National Monument, where with a helmet and flashlight you can tour as many lava tubes as you have time for before you need to leave. Return to Reno for your last night.
Day 7: Return home after experiencing a wealth of diversity in this special part of the United States.
