If you are an American Citizen, be sure to contact your representative in the US Congress months before your trip to secure advance tour tickets to the sights and avoid waiting in long lines. The schedule below may need to be revised based on the tickets your representative is able to get for you.
Day 1: After arriving in the nation’s capital and checking into your hotel, head directly to Arlington National Cemetery to put you in the right mood to understand the sacrifices that others have made for the freedoms Americans enjoy. Make sure to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the top of the hour to see the changing of the guard and then visit any other graves or memorials that hold significant interest to you. On your way back, visit the Jefferson Memorial, which is always open, and check into your hotel, which will be your base for the entire trip. Day 2: In the morning, take your congressional tour of the White House and then spend the rest of your day visiting the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Day 3: Make sure to put on your walking shoes as you take your congressional tour of the US Capital and then walk the entire length of the National Mall touring the Washington, Vietnam War, Korean War, World War II, and Lincoln Monuments . Day 4: After breakfast, take your congressional tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to see how the wealth of America is represented in paper currency. Afterwards, head to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum to see the Spirit of St. Louis and other famous American aircraft. Day 5: On your last morning, tour the Holocaust Memorial Museum before your return home. |
